Evolution?
Evolution is the change over time. Alleles are versions of traits which are on chromosomes that can aid in survival or not. The change in allele frequency can kill off the species or protect it. There are four factors that drive a change in allele frequency. The first is mutation. Mutation can be harmful or helpful alleles, but it is the only way new alleles are created. The second, is a genetic drift, which a random change in allele frequency. Third, is migration, or gene flow, which is when a group on individuals move from one population to another. Lastly, is natural selection. In natural selection it is based on those who are best suited to the environment to survive and reproduce. There are three conditions needed for natural selection (1) variation in a trait (2) trait must be heritable (3) different reproductive success.
Special Adaptations
1. Cephalic Lobes on the to sides of their head help to funnel water into their mouth, thus helping them feed. [3]
2. Mouth used to be situated at the bottom of the manta rays's body, not the front.
3. Shape of mouth has become wider to allow larger amounts of food to be taken in.
